Playoff Game #1: The Hartree-Fockers hold off the Neon Ballerz en route to a 9-0 victory
November 12th, 2018
The Neon Ballerz and Hartree-Fockers duked it out on Monday night in the opening round of the flag football consolation playoffs. As if the sleet foreshadowed it, "winter was coming" both literally for State College and figuratively for the Neon Ballerz. They had opportunities to score, marching down to the red zone twice. However, the first opportunity ended in a turnover on downs while the second ended in an interception. The absences of Owen Burkett and Bailey Stoltzfus were clearly felt; they had been major impact players during the season.
After both teams struggled to score during the first eighteen minutes of the game, the Hartree-Fockers finally broke through. A drive catalyzed by a deep pass culminated with a nine-point touchdown. Late in the fourth quarter, they converted several first downs, milking the clock and sealing the victory.
There is no official word on where the Neon Ballerz will enter the intramural scene next. There have been whispers that the team will enter the volleyball arena, though. #NeonVolleyballerz
Game #3: Neon Ballerz nab first win in dramatic fashion
October 31st, 2018
Despite scoring 15 fewer points than in their last game, the Neon Ballerz squeezed out a 0-0 win without even stepping out on the field. The outcome was not decided until very late, but anticipated poor field conditions due to rain showers forced Campus Recreation to err on the side of caution and cancel the game. The Neon Ballerz will look to obtain their first on-field victory in Wednesday's playoff game against The Hartree-Fockers.
Game #2: Neon Ballerz orchestrate valiant comeback, but fall short in 22-15 loss to Playbook of Job
October 24th, 2018
The Neon Ballerz and Playbook of Job battled in an exciting game that went down to the wire on Wednesday night. Playbook of Job capitalized on big plays, scoring touchdowns on two long passes to build a big lead. Although the score was 22-0 halfway through the third quarter, the game felt much closer than it actually was. At least, the Neon Ballerz felt that way because they refused to be disheartened.
On a late third quarter drive, Owen Burkett made several tough catches, the last of which was for a touchdown, to revitalize the Neon Ballerz offense. Then, the points poured on in a flurry. Joshua Miller contributed a safety to trim the deficit to 22-8. After forcing a stop, the Neon Ballerz got the ball back for another scoring drive. Mike Hopp found Justin Korman wide-open in the middle of the field and Korman made a few players miss to take it #ToTheHouse. The subsequent one-point conversion made it a seven point game.
With just a few minutes remaining in the game, the Neon Ballerz needed the ball back immediately. Playbook of Job marched to inside the Neon Ballerz's 5 yard-line before finally being stopped on fourth down. At that point, fewer than 30 seconds were left in the game. Ultimately, the Neon Ballerz failed to put together one last miracle, as Playbook of Job held on for the victory.
Game #1: The Neon Ballerz show exciting potential in 27-9 loss vs. 412
October 17th, 2018
The fierce winds and stinging cold created the perfect environment for a classic in the Neon Ballerz's first-ever flag football game. 412's athleticism helped them prevail, but the Neon Ballerz's spirit and enthusiasm never wavered.
412 scored quickly on their first series of the game, connecting on a 66-yard TD pass. Undeterred, the Neon Ballerz would respond later in the first half. QB Mike Hopp, one of a triumvirate of talented QB's the Ballerz have, escaped the blitz, rolled to his right, and hit Justin Korman in the back of the end zone in a play sequence that would've made Trace McSorley and Saquon Barkley smile. A successful two-point conversion gave the Neon Ballerz the lead 7-6 in the second quarter. Just before the half, 412 scored again to take the lead back 13-7.
Making some adjustments at halftime, the Neon Ballerz stifled 412 on their opening drive of the second half. Bailey Stoltzfus sacked 412's quarterback three straight times, the last of which resulted in a safety.
However, the momentum would not last for long. 412 scored another touchdown to extend their lead to 21-9. In a last attempt to tie the game, the Neon Ballerz marched down the field, but their drive stalled in the red zone. A pass on fourth-down was intercepted for a pick-six.
